1st XI Match Report vs Fulwood & Broughton II (Away)

Date: Saturday 2nd May
Result: BAC/EE Preston Won by 44 runs
Points: 10

Report

After two solid performances, the lads were looking to make it three out of three at Fulwood & Broughton who were, by no means, were any pushovers as they graced the field with some very experienced players.

For the third successive week, BAC were asked to bat first up and got off to a disastrous start as we fell to 60 for 6.  At that point, it was looking pretty grim and a total of over 100 would have suited the camp.  However, Macca (John McKeever) and Our Massive (Tom Wilcock) managed to turn things around with a partnership worth over 50 runs as they scored 30 and 29 runs respectively.  Some big hitting towards the end from Dindo (Danny Wilcock) who scored 17 and GID (Mark Whelan) who smashed his way to 31 not out got the BAC boys out of jail as the team managed to reach 164 before being bowled out in the 44th over. The performance signified the team’s strength in depth with a batting line up which should danger any side in the division.

At the interval it was drilled into the boys from skipper, Lodgie, that it was a winnable game, but we must dominate our opponents from the off with clear intent and the passion to win. That was exactly what we did.  Lodgie opted to open the attack with Keano (Mick Keane) and Dindo (Danny Wilcock) and it soon paid dividends as the hosts found themselves 3 wickets down in the opening 10 overs. However, with plenty of experienced players yet to bat, it was important the lads didn’t get carried away and kept their foot on the gas. Our Massive (Tom Wilcock) joined the attack and took three wickets in quick succession (including ex-BAC player, Chris Fenton) to help sink F&B. Dindo (2-58) eventually took the final wicket to give BAC a well deserved victory. Keano finished with fantastic figures as he bowled all the way through taking 5-38 off 17 overs including 7 maidens.

The performance will give the lads plenty of confidence going into their next game.  Their character and grit shone through as they recovered from an awful first quarter of the game to take maximum points. Massive!
