Report

After a decent pre-season under everyone’s belt it was finally time for the real thing. The lads arrived at Torrisholme full of confidence and looking forward to a good days play while the sun shone over gloriously over Lancaster. The ground itself has been transformed and now includes a state of the art pavilion including a massive changing room and good shower facilities.  Not only that, but the field itself was in fantastic condition and the square was flatter and harder than I had ever seen it before.

Everyone was geared up to make our first impressions in Division 1 convincing and that is exactly how it proved to be.  After losing the toss, newly appointed skipper, Steve Lodge (aka Lodgie, Back Hand, Skip), was advised his team will bat first. After a solid start, we soon lost a few wickets in succession before Michael Keane (aka Camel but not Billy Keane’s son) and new boy, Dave Holt (Holty) put on a solid partnership. However, before they could pick up some real momentum Holt, was out LBW for unlucky 13, which meant Jamie Skeoch (who doesn’t like to accept a nickname for himself) was brought to the crease.  After a nervy start he looked in fantastic form hitting two 6′s and many other boundaries as BAC looked sure to post a very healthy score. Keane was dismissed for 27, however John McKeever (aka Macca, Russ, Tanny, Dot Machine, Catalogue Ken, Seaman) did a great job to ensure we didn’t lose the momentum.  Skeoch was unlucky to lose his wicket after being run out from a direct hit for a fantastic 59 and McKeever went on to score 30 before being caught out.  Mark Whelan (aka Wheelo,  G.I.D, Lurky) did well lower down the order to ensure we picked up maximum batting points as he scored 24.  The lads finished on 202 All Out but with no balls remaining in the innings.

After the break, Torrisholme started the innings in a positive fashion as they raced to 60 without loss. The breakthrough eventually come after some good field placing between Lodge and Keane shortly before, meaning that Keane was given the opportunity to run McKevitt out after an excellent, low one handed stop in mid-wicket before firing the ball over the stumps for Wilding (aka Wolly, Salad) to take off the bails. The skipper, Lodge, brought on the rejuvenated McKeever as second change bowler who responded with two early wickets in successive balls to put BAC back on top in the game. However, after a lean spell in the field, we struggled to find that elusive fourth wicket.  Straight after the drinks interval, as the score stud at around 100-3, Lodgie turned to Tom Wilcock (aka MASSIVE, Willo, Twilly) to make a breakthrough.  The change did the trick as Wilcock took a wicket in his second over before finishing on figures of 5-30. Torrisholme were all out for 161 leaving the BAC boys with the maximum points.
